The Resource Recovery Division, part of the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES), is committed to providing public services in a professional and courteous manner. It is our goal to provide services that protect the environment and respond to the needs of the community at the least possible cost. Accomplishing this goal requires a cooperative effort between Alexandria citizens, businesses, and City government.

Alexandria ❤️’s Recycling for Valentine’s Day

Show your recycling bin some love this Valentine’s Day by keeping non-recyclable materials out! Candy wrappers, bows and ribbons, flowers, cards, and boxes with mixed foil, plastic, and glitter coatings are all items that belong in another bin. Use the What Goes Where tool to make sure you don’t break any sustainable hearts!

Recycling Implementation Plan

All City businesses and multi-family property owners are required to update their Recycling Implementation Plans (RIP forms). RIP forms are due January 30, 2025.

Curbside Composting In Alexandria

Registration for the Curbside Composting pilot program is now OPEN. Residents will be able to place items such as fruit and vegetable scraps, meat, and bones in a dedicated bin for food waste collection instead of putting food waste in the trash.
