City Council

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is a constitutional officer who is elected by the citizens of the City of Alexandria to an eight year term. The Clerk of the Circuit Court’s Office offers a variety of services that include issuing marriage licenses, notary public qualifications, processing carry permit applications, maintaining the Circuit Court’s case records, intake of new case actions, offering online Court records and much more.
Commonwealth's Attorney
The Commonwealth's Attorney is a constitutional officer who is elected by the citizens of Alexandria to a four year term. The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all persons charged with the commission of criminal and traffic offenses that occur within the City limits in violation of state law or City Ordinances.

The Sheriff is a constitutional officer who is elected by the citizens of Alexandria to a four year term. The Office of the Sheriff is responsible for the operation of the Detention Center, courthouse and courtroom security, service of all court legal documents, execution of court orders, transportation of prisoners, execution of arrest warrants, and general public safety and law enforcement.

The Alexandria City School Board is a nine-member elected body that adopts policy for the daily operation of schools and sees that school laws are properly explained, enforced, and observed. The City is divided into three voting districts, and three Board members are elected from each district. Each member serves a three-year term.
