Duke Street Dog Park Improvements
Location
Project Description
Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) is currently designing a renovation of the Duke Street Dog Park, scheduled for implementation within 2018/2019. Per the Holmes Run Park Improvement Plan (2014), the design concept (shown below) includes adding a small dog area and large dog area, water fountains, and shade trees to the site. The proposed concept also includes shade structures that may be installed at a later date, as funding allows.
Progress Update
The design for the Duke Street Dog Park was updated in 2018 and 2019 based on community comments. Modifications include adding a hose bib connection to the water fountains, extending the pavement at the entrances to connect to ADA accessible benches, changing the plantings between the two dog areas, and adding trees to the perimeter of the dog park. Modifications for maintenance access were added for improved service to the dog park. Future improvements may include small park shelters, lights, and a gravel path for maintenance access. The project has been delayed and will transition into the construction stage, which will be phased over the spring and summer of 2022.

Construction Updates
The water fountains and new walkway will be installed first. These improvements are outside the existing fenced area and installation will not require the closure of the dog park.
