Child identification records can provide critical details in emergency situations, so the Sheriff’s Office is making ID kits available to Alexandria families at no cost.

The kits include forms where parents or guardians can complete information about a child, add a current photo, and collect fingerprints and a DNA sample. Once completed, the kit remains with the family and would only be given to law enforcement in case of an emergency.

Parents can take the kits with them when the family travels or share them with grandparents or other trusted family members children might be visiting or staying with.

The kits also include helpful safety tips for families and directions on how to obtain fingerprints and DNA samples.

Families can get the kits from deputies at community events the Sheriff’s Office is participating in and deputies serving civil process across the city will have them in their cruisers. Families can also pick them at the Alexandria Courthouse at 520 King Street during courthouse business hours and anytime at the Visitor Center, open 24/7, at the Public Safety Center at 2003 Mill Road. The Visitor Center has free gun locks and medication lock boxes as well to help keep families safe.
