America250
In 2026, the United States will commemorate the semiquincentennial of the Revolution. The City of Alexandria helped construct the foundation of the revolution. From the creation of the Fairfax Resolves to the hometown of George Washington, Alexandria played a unique role in the birth of our new nation and its legacies today. Museums and organizations across the city tell this story through tours, exhibitions, public art, programs, wayfinding signs, and more. Join us as we celebrate and commemorate America’s Story in Alexandria.
Fairfax Resolves Program and Marker Dedication
Exactly 250 years after British colonists in Virginia wrote radical and influential words that forged the path to revolution, the City of Alexandria commemorated the Fairfax Resolves. The evening included history booths, a marker dedication, the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps performance, and remarks by reenactors portraying George Washington and George Mason. Keynote remarks were given by Carly Fiorina, Virginia's National Honorary Chairperson of the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission. Partner organizations include VA250, Historic Alexandria, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, George Mason’s Gunston Hall, Carlyle House Historic Park, and the Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution.
