Reproductive health ensures that you can safely avoid pregnancy or achieve a healthy pregnancy. It can also help you care for yourself and your baby during and after birth.

Manage Your Reproductive Health

Talk to your healthcare provider or visit Alexandria Health Department to manage your reproductive health. AHD offers the following services:

  • STI screening, testing, and treatment. Visit AHD's STI Prevention Page for more.
  • Hep B and HPV immunization (shots)
  • Pap smears to screen for signs of cervical cancer.
  • Breast cancer screening
  • Education about male and female reproductive health
  • Pregnancy, maternal and infant care services (below)

To book an appointment for these services, call 703.746.4888. Bring your insurance information to your appointment. If you do not have health insurance, you may be billed based on a sliding fee scale. Alexandria Health Department welcomes all people of all gender identities.

For additional services, including endometriosis treatment and Ob/Gyn services, AHD can refer individuals with Medicaid or without insurance to Neighborhood Health.

Manage Pregnancy

For people having sex, Alexandria Health Department provides or refers methods to prevent pregnancy, including contraception and birth control. Call for information about costs. AHD can also provide guidance to clients about abstinence.

Support for Pregnant People, Mothers, and Infants

Alexandria Health Department coordinates BabyCare to foster healthy pregnancies and babies. BabyCare services include nutrition support and education for pregnant women, case management and home visits, and infant and child health guidance for new moms. BabyCare services are available to eligible pregnant women and/or children up to the age of two enrolled in Virginia Medicaid or Virginia Medicaid Managed Programs. Learn more about BabyCare.

If you’re uninsured or on Medicaid, Alexandria Health Department can connect you with an OB/GYN or a primary care provider for you and your infant through Neighborhood Health, Inc.

Some other AHD services for mothers and infants include:

  • Breastfeeding and chestfeeding counseling and WIC programs, including nutrition education, breastfeeding support, food support, counseling and screening and referrals to other services. WIC is available by appointment only for women and children under five years of age. breast pump distribution.
