Pregnancy and Reproductive Health
Reproductive health ensures that you can safely avoid pregnancy or achieve a healthy pregnancy. It can also help you care for yourself and your baby during and after birth.
Alexandria Health Department offers the following services for birth control, pregnancy, and maternal and baby care.

Clinical Services
Talk to your doctor or visit Alexandria Health Department to manage your reproductive health. AHD offers these services:
- Family planning, birth control, and pregnancy testing
- Birth control options: pill, IUD, implant, NuvaRing, shot
- STI screening, testing, and treatment. Visit AHD's STI Prevention Page for more.
- Breast cancer screening
- Hep B and HPV vaccines
- Pap smears to screen for cervical cancer.
- Education about male and female reproductive health
To book an appointment for these services, call 703.746.4888. Bring your insurance information or pay based on a sliding fee scale. Alexandria Health Department welcomes all people of all gender identities.
For additional services, including endometriosis treatment and Ob/Gyn services, AHD may refer you to another provider.
Programs for Parents
BabyCare
BabyCare is a free, one-on-one program that pairs pregnant people or parents of babies under two with a visiting nurse. Nurses give parents practical knowledge and help guide you on local resources, child development, breastfeeding, postpartum and more.
WIC
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provides nutritious food benefits, nutrition counseling, and breastfeeding support to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, and for children up to age 5. WIC also issues free breast pumps to eligible breastfeeding mothers.

Emergency contraception can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It is available for free in Alexandria.
