Syphilis
Rate of New Early Syphilis Diagnoses Per 100,000 People (2011-2022)

- In 2022, Alexandria’s rate of new early syphilis diagnoses was 2.6 times higher than the Northern Virginia regional rate and 2.2 times higher than Virginia’s statewide rate.

Congenital Syphilis
Number of Congenital Syphilis Diagnoses in Virginia (2012-2022)

- Statewide, the number of diagnoses of congenital syphilis, in which a mother passes syphilis to an infant, have increased significantly since 2012.
- Since 2012, there have been 103 congenital syphilis diagnoses in Virginia. About a third of congenital syphilis diagnoses occurred in Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon, and Prince William).
