Below is a list of projects and initiatives that are open to public comment, or surveys that are currently accepting submissions, as well as opportunities to get involved with City Boards and Commissions, volunteering and mentoring, City Planning and more!

Spring 2025 City Academy

Alexandria City Academy participants will learn about the many responsibilities and functions of the City Government and the relationships between City Departments, the community, and partner agencies. During the seven-week program, the Academy's goal is to educate the public, increase awareness, and encourage greater community involvement.

To qualify for the City Academy, applicants must be residents of the City of Alexandria and at least 18 years old.

5001 Eisenhower Avenue is a large, outdated office building being considered for conversion to residential use to address both the City's current office vacancy rate and the need for housing options. Community input on this project is welcome and encouraged!

The City Hall and Market Square Renovation Project will be supported by a robust community engagement plan to ensure nearby residents, businesses and all Alexandrians are part of the design process.

Save the Dates: City of Alexandria’s FY2026 Budget Presentations

City Manager James Parajon will present the City of Alexandria’s Fiscal Year 2026 (FY2026) Proposed Budget to City Council on Tuesday, February 25, at 7 p.m. in City Hall, Council Chambers (301 King St.).

John Ewald Park Improvements

The 3.88-acre park located in the West End of Alexandria currently has a lighted basketball court, playground, and parking lot. Anticipated improvements include the renovation and relocation of the playground, Parkour fitness equipment, and stormwater management recommendations gathered from the public.
