Volunteering at the Apothecary Museum
Volunteering at the Apothecary Museum
The Apothecary has two primary volunteer positions: tour guide and greeter. These volunteer are essential to the Apothecary's guest experience, helping orient visitors to the museum and sharing it's amazing history through 45 minute tours. Please note the museum does involve some limited stair climbing.
Both volunteer positions are asked to sign up for one approximately four-hour shift per month after completing their training. Greeter shifts are largely available weekend afternoons, and tour guide shifts are available every day the museum is open, both weekends and weekdays.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about other volunteer opportunities at the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator or call the Museum at 703.746.3852.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
We are not recruiting for new volunteers at this time. Our next training for new tour guides will take place in the late summer of 2024. Please watch for an announcement of those training dates here and apply at that time.
If interested in volunteering sooner, you may want to consider volunteering at another Alexandria museum. And be sure to join check our Calendar of Events for festivals, lectures, and other fun and interesting ways to participate.
Volunteer Benefits
Current volunteers receive free parking during their shifts and a discount in the museum shop. Volunteers also receive free reciprocal admission to other museums in Alexandria and throughout the region. Ongoing professional development opportunities are provided about Alexandria’s history, the museum’s history specifically, and interpretation and public speaking techniques.
