The Alexandria Police Department recommends residents and visitors to plan ahead for multiple events occurring in and around Market Square and the Route 1 corridor tomorrow, Saturday, October 18, 2025.
To ensure public safety and smooth access for all activities, including early voting and events in Market Square, review the details below before traveling to Old Town or nearby areas.
Public Rally
A public rally will take place on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. along portions of northbound Route 1. Participants are expected to gather along sidewalks and roadside extending from Powhatan Park to Potomac Yard. Drivers and pedestrians should expect periodic congestion along Route 1 and adjacent intersections during this time. The event is planned as a peaceful sidewalk; officers will be present to help ensure the safety of all participants and travelers.
Market Square Events & Street Closures
Market Square will host additional activities in the afternoon. For the safety of attendees and pedestrians:
- Street closures (1 p.m.–6 p.m.):
• 100 block of N. Royal Street
• 100 block of N. Fairfax Street
• 300 block of King Street - Use public transportation to reach Market Square whenever possible.
- The Old Town Farmers’ Market will remain open and accessible.
Early Voting Access
The Office of Voter Registration & Elections (132 N. Royal St.) will remain open for in-person early voting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Designated voter parking is available on the west side of the 100 block of N. Royal Street.
- Pedestrian access to the Elections Office will be maintained.
