Alexandria Police Department Investigates Attempted Sexual Assault on Main Line Boulevard
Alexandria, Va. - Early Sunday morning, at approximately 12:03 a.m., Alexandria Police officers responded to the 2200 block of Main Line Boulevard for the report of an assault which just occurred. Officers located an adult female who reported she was walking down an alleyway when an unknown male attempted to sexually assault her. Upon arriving, officers established a perimeter with the intention to arrest the suspect. One of the officers on scene initiated a foot pursuit with a man believed to be the suspect, however he escaped.
The seriousness of this crime evoked a heavy police presence with mutual aid support from other jurisdictions including Fairfax County Police Department and Metro Transit Police Department.
This investigation remains active. Detectives are speaking with witnesses, reviewing video footage, and following up on leads. Additionally, APD is aware of community concerns surrounding a loud noise believed to be associated with this incident. There was no evidence of the use of a firearm and there were no reports of an explosion in this area related to this incident.
