Alexandria Fire Department to Host Annual Ivy Hill Memorial and Wreath Laying Ceremony
For Immediate Release: October 4, 2023
The Alexandria Fire Department will recognize and observe National Fire Prevention Week on Friday, October 13 with a memorial service and wreath laying at 11 a.m. The solemn ceremony is held each year at Ivy Hill Cemetery, located at 2823 King St., to honor those who have died in the line of duty and members of the Fire Department who have passed away during the preceding 12 months.
“The Alexandria Fire Department will always remain dedicated to never forgetting and honoring the courageous first responders we’ve lost over the years,” said Fire/EMS Chief Corey Smedley. “We must recognize and remember those who risked their wellbeing to serve the community and use this opportunity as a reminder to take care of ourselves and each other.”
Uniformed members of the Alexandria Fire Department, Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department, and Fire Department retirees will be present to honor their fallen colleagues. The public and media representatives are invited to attend the ceremony.
In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, located at 2932 King St. For additional information, contact Community Outreach Coordinator Firefighter Ashley Whisonant at (703) 746-5217 or ashley.whisonant@alexandriava.gov.
