City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for Thanksgiving Holiday Week

City of Alexandria government offices will be closed Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Other schedule changes and closings are listed below.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) will be closed November 24, operating regularly by appointment November 25. To make an appointment, visit alexandriaanimals.org/Adopt-by-Appointment. The animal emergencies or wildlife concerns hotline, 703.746.4444, operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will continue to operate normally.
Courts: The Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Court Service Unit, will close at noon Wednesday, November 23, and will remain closed November 24 and 25.
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV): On November 24, 25, and 26, all DMV Customer Service Centers in Northern Virginia will be closed.
Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department, the Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School will close at noon on Wednesday, November 23, and will remain closed November 24 and 25.
Historic Alexandria: On November 24, all City of Alexandria museums will be closed. All museums are closed through November 27 with the exception of Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, which resume normal operation on November 25. Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will not be closed during the holiday. This includes Child Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5800; Domestic Violence hotline at 703.746.4911; Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; Adult Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5778 or 988; and Sexual Assault Hotline at 703.683.7273.
Impound Facility: The City’s Impound Facility for towed vehicles will be closed November 24-27. The Impound Facility is closed Saturdays and Sundays and on all observed City holidays. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays.
Leaf Collection: There will be no leaf collection November 24. Leaf collection will resume November 25 and 26; however, there will be no leaf collection in the Zone 5 area on these days due to expected increased holiday shopping traffic. Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be closed November 24 and 25. Visit Alexandria Library for details.
Parking: On November 24 and 25, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcing parking restrictions at metered spaces, in residential permit parking districts and in other areas with signed parking time limits. Temporary no parking areas will still be enforced.
Recreation, Nature, and Art Centers: On November 24, all City of Alexandria recreation, nature, and art centers will be closed. On November 25, Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, and Aquatics Facility, Charles Houston Recreation Center and Patrick Henry Recreation Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Torpedo Factory Art Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All other recreation and nature centers will be closed. Resource Recovery: Residential refuse and recycling will be collected on the regularly scheduled day during the week of November 21. On Thanksgiving Day, November 24 collection will begin at 6 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be open as usual on Saturday, November 26. Schools: All Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed November 23-25.
Transit: On November 24, the fare-free DASH service will operate on a Sunday schedule. On November 25, DASH will operate on its regular weekday schedule. The free King Street Trolley will operate every 15 minutes from King Street Metro to Alexandria City Hall, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Alexandria Transit Company administrative office will be closed November 24-25.
