Fort Ward Museum is presenting a special tour on Saturday, November 12, in honor of Veterans Day. The free 90-minute guided tour will begin at 11 a.m. in the Museum. Reservations are not required. Attendees will learn about Civil War veterans’ organizations, the history of Fort Ward, army life in the Civil War Defenses of Washington, and the design and construction of Civil War forts. Highlights include the reconstructed Officers’ Hut and ceremonial entrance gate, and the fully restored Northwest bastion.
Fort Ward is the best preserved Union fort in the Civil War Defenses of Washington. The Museum offers exhibits and programs throughout the year. Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site is located at 4301 West Braddock Road in Alexandria. Please call 703.746.4848 for more information.
