Inclement Weather & Closures: For the safety of recreation services participants and employees, it is sometimes necessary to cancel programs and close centers. Examples of weather that may interrupt indoor or outdoor recreation services include winter weather, severe storms, excessive rain, and extreme heat. 

Facility Closures*

The following recreation centers will be closed in the upcoming weeks:
Oswald Durant: September 2-6
Mount Vernon: September 6 @ 6 p.m. through September 8

*The Mount Vernon parking lot and a portion of Commonwealth Ave. will also be blocked off during this time. Please make sure to move your cars from the following areas before 6 p.m. on September 6.

Notifications of Cancellations & Closures

Notifications of cancellations and closures are posted on social media, the City Calendar and on the website as soon as the department or the City makes the decision. In some cases, program participants may be called directly with notification. For wider ranging impact events, a decision to close or cancel may be made for all City services. For smaller impact events, changes may be made for only the impacted services. ACPS cancellations and closures do not determine recreation service adjustments, which include classes, sports, and Out of School Time Program. If you're unsure if your program is impacted, please call: Registration & Reservation Office at 703.746.5414 or the relevant recreation center or aquatic facility.
