Intellectual and Developmental Disability Services
Mission
The mission of Developmental Disability Services is to maximize independence of clients served in the most integrated community settings with the necessary supports. We provide long-term care "case management" services, also known as "support coordination."
Who is Eligible?
Services are available to residents of the City of Alexandria with a diagnosis of an intellectual disability before age18 or developmental disability before the age of 22. These include autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
Children and young adults under the age of 22 years old can seek services with the Youth Intellectual and Developmental Disability Program through the intake phone number at 571.213.7963. Developmental Disability Services
- Monthly case management
- Monitoring services to ensure client is satisfied with the progression of their goals and we are meeting their needs
- Assistance finding local doctors and specialists
- Assistance accessing and maintaining entitlements such as social security and Medicaid
- Individual needs assessment to determine if the client is eligible for Home and Community Based Medicaid Waivers
- Establishing waiver services for day support, individual/supported employment, companion care, respite care, personal care services and more
- Based on eligibility, access to the city-managed residential program including 4 group homes and 12 supported living apartments
- Based on eligibility; access to the Fennel-Sauls program for day support, group supported employment, community engagement and pre-vocational skill development

To schedule an appointment, call 703.746.3535 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and ask to speak with an intake worker or email: CSBAdultIntake@alexandriava.gov.

What TO Bring to Intake
ID, proof of residency, income, insurance, and if applicable: Guardianship/ Power of Attorney, medication list, hospital discharge, or veteran’s survivor benefits.
NEXT STEPS and WAIVER
Once the meeting is complete with Youth or Adult Intake, clients will complete another intake with the Developmental Delay Team. An assessment called the Virginia Individual Developmental Delay will be administered to determine if a client is eligible for the waiver program One can still qualify for case management services if criteria is not met. A case manager will be assigned and you will discuss the goals you want to achieve.

- REACH at 855.897.8278- REACH provides 24/7 crisis stabilization for youth and adults with ID or DD with mental health challenges or significant behavioral challenges. Services include mobile crisis response teams for crisis stabilization and prevention at one’s residence for up to 30 days, therapeutic homes for those in need of short-term crisis stabilization (30 days for adults) (15 for youth) and development of a treatment plan.
