The Child Care Assistance Program provides opportunities for low income Alexandrians to receive the quality childcare that all children deserve. The program helps cover the costs of childcare, which for many families is the lifeline to work, economic security, and healthy kids.
Eligibility Requirements for Child Care Assistance (Please note that eligibility requirements may change periodically.)
• Family must reside in the City of Alexandria.
• Children must be US citizens or have an eligible visa status. We do not ask for the parent visa status.
• Children must be under age 13, or under 18 if they are unable to care for themselves.
• Parents must be employed or in an accredited school.
• Family must meet minimum wage and a maximum monthly income limitations An eligible family may receive up to 72 months (six years) of childcare assistance, as funding is available.

Complete the application online at CommonHelp. For families without internet access or those in need of assistance with the application, call 703.746.5437 to complete the application by phone.

CommonHelp allows Virginia residents to apply online or by phone for child care assistance. Residents may also apply at CommonHelp for food stamps (SNAP), medical assistance such as FAMIS and Medicaid, utility bill assistance and cash assistance (TANF).
