Project Description
The City of Alexandria is increasing the capacity of the sanitary sewer system by installing new, larger pipes on four streets:
- Unit and 100 block of East Maple Street
- 200 and 300 blocks of East Oak Street
- 500 block of East Alexandria Avenue
- 300 block of Ashby Street
This work is being undertaken to help mitigate sanitary sewer backups that occur as a result of significant wet weather. View the full set of construction plans here.

Construction Update
Project procurement is complete. Preparation for site mobilization is underway.
Active construction is expected to begin January 20, 2025, and run through August 2025.

- Description: City of Alexandria staff gave a presentation on the project featuring details about the project, including the project schedule, work hours, what to expect during construction, and how construction-related impacts will be managed. The presentation was followed by a public question-and-answer session.
