Five Easy Ways to Pay
There are five ways to pay Alexandria taxes and parking tickets:
Online
NOTE: LICENSE TAG / DECAL violations listed below cannot be paid online.
- 3-2-226 Offenses relating to city license plate, windshield and decal
- 10-4-37 Failure to procure and display city license plate, windshield tag or decal
- 10-4-37.1 Enforcement of the Northern Virginia Local Motor Vehicle License Compact
The City of Alexandria cannot accept online payment for parking citations issued to booted or impounded vehicles, or to vehicles cited for failure to display a City vehicle decal (violation code 3-2-336, 10-4-37, or 10-4-37.1). The boot or decal violation must be resolved before the parking citation may be paid and verification is currently not automated. You may pay in person at City Hall or mail the payment together with proof that you have purchased and paid for the decal.

By eCheck: You can pay online by transferring funds from your personal checking or savings account. This service is free, but you must know the ticket number and amount you need to pay.
By Credit Card: You can pay online with your personal or business Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover/Novus card. A convenience fee applies to this service.

Real Estate ACH Debit Program
By Automatic Bank Debit: You can have your real estate taxes and refuse fees automatically paid from your checking or savings account in monthly installments or in one lump-sum payment on each of the tax due dates. This service is free. Click on the link above to learn more about the Automatic Bank Debit payment option.
By Phone
By Credit Card: You can pay real estate tax, personal property tax, business
personal property tax, and parking tickets using your personal or business
Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover/Novus card. A convenience
fee applies to this service.
- To make a tax payment by phone, call 1-800-2-PAY-TAX, and enter jurisdiction code 1007 when prompted.
- To pay a parking ticket by phone, call 1-866-353-0454.

By Mail
Checks or money orders may be mailed to Treasury Division, P.O. Box 323, Alexandria, VA 22313. Please be sure to include the bill, ticket, or invoice you are paying and write your bill, ticket, invoice, or account number in the memo field on your check. Returned checks are subject to a $35 fee in accordance with state law. For your protection, please do not mail cash.
In Person
You can pay by cash, check or money order at the Treasury Division in Room 1510, on the ground floor of Alexandria City Hall at 301 King Street in Old Town. Walk straight through the lobby and follow the arrow marked "Treasury." Payments are accepted in person Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except City holidays. Saturday hours are no longer available. To avoid long lines near payment deadlines, consider paying by one of the other methods above.
You can drop a payment by check or money order in the drop box on the Royal Street wall of City Hall. Payments must be placed in the drop box by midnight on the tax due date to be considered on - time. Please be sure to include the bill, ticket, or invoice you are paying and write your bill, ticket, invoice, or account number in the memo field on your check. Returned checks are subject to a $35 fee in accordance with state law. For your protection, please do not leave cash.
