The government of the City of Alexandria consists of 21 departments with an annual budget of nearly $771 million. These departments purchase a variety of goods and services ranging from pencils to multi-million dollar construction projects.

Purchasing Basics

All contracts for goods, services, insurance or construction are awarded through competitive solicitation or negotiation, or through other processes established by Virginia law and City Code.

The City has implemented a new Solicitation Portal, which requires vendors to register to actively receive notifications of solicitations based on commodity code. To register to be notified of “Invitations to Bid” (ITB’s) and “Requests for Proposals”(RFP’s) issued by the City and to view and respond to bid and proposal opportunities, please use the City's  Solicitation portal.

Please be advised that plans, specifications, and other supplementary documents for construction ITBs and RFPs are no longer available for purchase in hard copy at the offices of the Purchasing Division. They are now available for download through the Solicitation portal

REGISTER FOR VIRTUAL BID OPENINGS AND PRE-BID CONFERENCES

The City is currently conducting all bid openings and pre-bid conferences virtually to ensure that anyone who wishes to participate can do so safely. In order to register, follow the link below to the Vendor Self-Service page and click on the link for either Bid Openings or Pre-Bid Conferences. There you can choose the meeting you would like to attend by selecting the bid number from the drop-down menu.

The City is using a new online portal where vendors are able to view and bid on City contracts and solicitations. To register as a vendor or maintain your vendor account, login through the Solicitation Portal.
