The government of the City of Alexandria consists of 21 departments with an annual budget of nearly $531.6 million. These departments purchase a variety of goods and services ranging from pencils to multi-million dollar construction projects.

All contracts for goods, services, insurance or construction are awarded through competitive solicitation or negotiation, or through other processes established by Virginia law and City Code.
