Del Ray West Lateral Rehabilitation
Project Summary
Current Phase: Planning
Sponsor Project Manager: Lu Zhang, Transportation & Environmental Services
Managing Project Manager: Anup Gautam, Project Implementation
Project Description
The Del Ray West Lateral Rehabilitation project provides for the inspection and rehabilitation of City-owned portions of sanitary sewer laterals in the Del Ray West area, generally located between Commonwealth Avenue and Russell Road from West Glebe Road to King Street. This work is being done as part of the City's Sanitary Sewer Asset Renewal Program.
This project is currently in the planning phase. Planning phase activities consist of closed circuit television (CCTV) of lateral sewers. Inspection data collected is then reviewed to determine what laterals require rehabilitation, with most of the rehabilitation being trenchless (no digging). The planning phase is being managed by the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services' Sanitary Infrastructure Division. Following planning, the project will be transferred to the City's Department of Project Implementation for design and construction.
This project extends the useful life of the existing sanitary sewer system, reduces the amount of infiltration and inflow (I&I) that enters the sanitary sewer system and reduces the need for emergency repairs.
