About the Office of Real Estate Assessments
About the Office of Real Estate Assessments
Real property in the City of Alexandria is annually assessed and by law, the assessed value is required to be 100 percent of the estimated fair market value as of January 1 of the tax year. To ensure the accuracy and equity of assessments, the Office of Real Estate Assessments appraisal staff reviews and analyzes sales information throughout the City to account for changes in value due to appreciation as well as updating the records to reflect any new buildings, additions, remodeling, land divisions, etc.
If you should have questions about the assessment process or a specific property in the City of Alexandria not addressed on the web site, you are welcome to email us at realestate@alexandriava.gov or call us at 703.746.4646. Typically we invite you to visit the Office of Real Estate Assessments but currently visits to the office are by appointment only. Appraisers are readily available by email or telephone to address your questions or discuss the assessed value of your property and are very happy to explain the review and appeal process.
If you feel your inquiry requires an in-person meeting please call our office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to schedule an appointment. Our office is located at 301 King Street, Room 2600, Alexandria, Virginia.
Our goal is to ensure assessments are uniform and equitable for all properties in the City.
Sincerely,
William Bryan Page
