City Invites Public Comment on Chesapeake Bay Action Plan for Stormwater Pollution Reduction Targets
City Invites Public Comment on Chesapeake Bay Action Plan for Stormwater Pollution Reduction Targets
The City of Alexandria invites the public to provide comments on the Draft Phase 3 Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan (Bay Action Plan). The Bay Action Plan contains strategies for the City to meet stormwater pollution reduction targets to help clean up the Chesapeake Bay.
Bay cleanup targets are mandated through the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit, which regulates discharges of stormwater from the City’s storm sewer system. The General Permit requires the development and implementation of a Bay Action Plan which includes strategies to reduce pollution entering the Bay from stormwater runoff. The General Permit is issued in five-year cycles by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ).
The current General Permit requires the development and implementation of a Phase 3 Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan to meet 100 percent of the pollution reduction targets on or before June 31, 2028.
Beginning Thursday, August 29, public comments can be made via email to MS4ProgramPlan@alexandriava.gov or online using the form available on the City’s Chesapeake Bay webpage.
Comments may also be dropped off or mailed to:

The deadline for public comment is September 16, 2024.
Once reviewed, the Phase 3 Bay Action Plan will be finalized and posted to the City’s Chesapeake Bay webpage by November 1, 2024.
