City of Alexandria Seeks Community Input on Proposed Bus Shelter Amenities at West End Transitway
The City of Alexandria is implementing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along the Van Dorn/Beauregard corridor (West End Transitway). This enhanced service will make traveling by bus from Van Dorn Metrorail to Shirlington easier, safer, and more comfortable for people of all ages and abilities. Your feedback is important, and we want to hear what type of amenities you would like to see at stations along this corridor!
Complete the online feedback form by December 22.
The 2008 Transportation Master Plan identified the West End Transitway Corridor for BRT. In 2014, the West End Transitway Advisory Group was formed to provide input on key deliverables and make project recommendations. City Council approved a concept for the Transitway in 2016. $57,000,000 is available for the first phase of improvements which will include: dedicated BRT stations with shelters, intersection improvements for safety and access, as well as new buses.
DASH service along the corridor carries over 5,300 daily riders (FY23). This project is important as it will connect key transit hubs and activity centers while providing travel options with reliable time-saving transit service.
