City of Alexandria Continues to Prepare for Winter Weather
With above average snowfall being forecast for this winter, the City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services (T&ES) continues to prepare for potential snow and ice conditions. On Friday, December 8, T&ES will hold a second training exercise for staff and contractors involved in the City’s snow removal response.
The training exercise will include an event briefing and a practice snow and ice deployment. The training will allow the City’s snow plow drivers to build on the November 13 dry run to further enhance their skills, perform equipment inspections, and refamiliarize themselves with routes.
As always, T&ES advises residents to exercise caution when encountering snow plows on City streets—even when there isn’t snow and ice on the ground, please give the plows space to safely maneuver.
Test runs are an essential part of the City’s winter preparedness strategy; they help T&ES, and other City agencies, to respond promptly and effectively to keep our streets clear and our community safe when a snow event does occur.
