City to Host Open House on Infrastructure Investments along King & Commonwealth Corridors

Members of the public are invited to an Open House hosted by the City of Alexandria and its regional partners, Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) and Virginia Railway Express (VRE), to share information on ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects slated for the King Street and Commonwealth Avenue Corridors.

These upcoming projects include:

  • Hooffs Run Culvert Bypass (flood management)
  • Fourth Track Project (rail capacity improvement)
  • King & Commonwealth Rail Bridges (rail bridge replacements)
  • VRE Station Improvements (rail station improvements)
  • Commonwealth Interceptor Inflow and Infiltration Study (system capacity study)
  • King & Commonwealth Streetscape Improvements (safety and mobility improvements)

Speak with project managers for ongoing projects, including:

  • King-Callahan-Russell Intersection Improvement Project (intersection improvements)
  • Hooffs Run Culvert Structural Repairs Project (maintenance and repair)

The Open House will be held at Alexandria VRE Union Station, 110 Callahan Drive on Wednesday, October 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Drop in any time to talk to the project teams and learn more about the projects. At 6:00 p.m. there will be a brief presentation. The presentation and other meeting materials will be uploaded on the project website at the conclusion of the Open House.

Can’t make it? See the shared project website for more information.

Background: The City and its regional partners, VPRA, and VRE are advancing a variety of strategic infrastructure investments to improve sustainability and regional reliability for critical rail and stormwater infrastructure, and to improve safety in proximity to the King Street and Commonwealth Avenue intersection. To facilitate information sharing, the City and its partners have developed a shared project website, alexandriava.gov/go/4904, to host links to individual projects. The website hosts updates and information on public engagement and outreach events.
