Seven Recruit Deputies Graduate from Academy

Sheriff Sean Casey is proud to announce that seven recruit deputies graduated from Jail Officer Basic training at Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy. The deputies graduated on September 17 after successfully completing eight weeks of intensive training that included defensive tactics, firearms, legal, communication, and topics specific to jail operations and security, such as control of contraband, inmate classification, and transporting inmates. Deputy Rowland was recognized during the ceremony for the highest academic achievement as well as the highest overall achievement, and Deputy Matias also distinguished herself by being selected by her classmates as the class leader. Congratulations to all!

Judges Offer Congratulations and Encouragement at Inmate Recognition Event

More than 40 inmates were recognized for their achievements during a special event at the Adult Detention Center on September 25. Two judges, the Honorable Sonya Sacks and the Honorable Jane Reynolds, served as the guest speakers and joined Sheriff Casey in congratulating the honorees who completed programs focusing educational, professional or personal development. Instructors for several of the programs and classes were also present and offered their congratulations as members of their classes stood and received applause from other attendees, guests and jail staff.

Sheriff Promotes Lieutenant Hagar

Sheriff Casey recently promoted a new commander, Lieutenant Hagar who has served with ASO since 2008. Lieutenant Hagar has worked in the Detention Center, Administrative Services, and Judicial and Field Operations where he most recently supervised the Field Services Unit. We wish Lieutenant Hagar well in his new command assignment in the Detention Center and continued success with his ASO career!

Community Outreach Update with Fall Focus

Sheriff Casey and our deputies have been busy with many community outreach opportunities. This month ASO participated in Tons of Trucks, a safety fair at Bradlee, a barbecue with Child & Family Network Centers, Alexandria Library’s Black Family Reunion, Faith & Blue with Alfred Street Baptist Church and APD, Rosemont’s Oktoberfest, First Thursday in Del Ray, Ruby Tucker Readers, DASH’s Block Party, CCNA and Landmark Church’s Community Resource Day, and Cora Kelly’s Hispanic Heritage Month Read Aloud, among others. We were also touched to be part of programs in remembrance of September 11, 2001, including the City’s annual ceremony at Market Square, the JROTC ceremony at Alexandria City High, and the Miracle League’s Tribute to First Responders. Our thanks to all who organized and joined us at these events!

Save the Date! Expungement Clinic Coming Up

ASO is proud to team up with our justice community partners for a free Expungement Clinic on October 18 in the West End. Having a criminal record can present challenges to accessing employment, housing, and other important opportunities. If you are interested in learning about the expungement process and how we can help, please plan to attend.
