Don’t miss your opportunity to explore Alexandria’s rich history through the voices of its residents! The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum announces that the 275th exhibit, “Mapping Alexandria: Stories of a Changing City,” will close on March 1, 2026.

Alexandria old-new panorama image

Opened on June 22, 2025, this engaging exhibition commemorated the 275th anniversary of Alexandria’s founding. Visitors have explored the evolution of the city block by block, from Old Town to the West End, through more than 450 oral history interviews collected by the Office of Historic Alexandria. Guests have also had the chance to contribute their own stories, helping preserve the city’s shared history for future generations.

While the exhibit will close to in-person visitors on March 1, its content remains available online. Those interested in sharing their own Alexandria stories can visit the Alexandria Oral History Center webpage, email OralHistoryCenter@alexandriava.gov, or call 703.946.2687. Interested participants can also complete a survey at Mapping Alexandria Online Survey to schedule an interview with a staff oral historian.

This is your last chance to experience the “Mapping Alexandria: Stories of a Changing City” exhibit in-person before the gallery prepares for its 250th installation. Don’t miss it!

The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum is located at 201 S. Washington Street, Alexandria.
