Celebrate Story Time for Little Historians at the Alexandria Black History Museum — This Saturday!
Families are invited to bring their children to the Alexandria Black History Museum this Saturday, August 9, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. for Story Time for Little Historians, a joyful and engaging program that celebrates history, culture, and creativity!
In honor of Black August, a month that celebrates Black resistance and resilience, this special edition of Story Time will explore powerful stories of courage—like Alexandria’s own 1939 library sit-in—through picture books written by and about African Americans and other communities of color. A fun craft will follow the reading!
This month, dynamic storyteller Oumie will lead the session and read two very special books:
- Ron's Big Mission by Rose Blue and Corinne Naden
- The 1619 Project: Born on the Water by Nikole Hannah-Jones and Renée Watson
While this free program is open to all, it’s specially designed for children ages 5 to 8. Story Time takes place in the Museum’s Parker-Gray Gallery and brings important history to life through engaging stories and creative activities.
Story Time for Little Historians happens every second Saturday of the month, so mark your calendar and make it a monthly tradition!
