Updates on Potomac Yard Entertainment District at City Council Legislative Meeting
During the City of Alexandria’s Council Legislative Meeting on Tuesday, February 27, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) shared the progress of community engagement efforts regarding the proposed Potomac Yard Entertainment District (PYED) and City experts presented the potential impacts of the project and fiscal outlook.
Anticipated $33.7 Million Generated in the First Year
During Phase 1 of the arena's construction, PYED is projected to generate $33.7 million, which allows the City to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for residents and visitors. The associated costs of servicing the district and its surroundings are expected to be fully covered, with millions of dollars allocated for new programs and services in Alexandria in the inaugural year, with this number expected to increase annually.
Preservation Commitment
JBG SMITH, the project's development partner, has committed to preserving the affordability of 500 units of affordable workforce housing in the City of Alexandria, with a priority on the Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood. This commitment aligns with the City of Alexandria’s goal of creating 2,250 committed affordable workforce housing units by 2030.
