The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for the region, including the City of Alexandria, which is in effect until Wednesday, January 10 at 10 a.m. A high wind warning is also in effect until January 10 at 1 a.m.  

This evening, residents can expect widespread rainfall and strong winds with gusts up to 55 mph. Tidal flooding along the Potomac River is expected to continue into the evening, reaching approximately 5 feet by 6 a.m. Wednesday. Residents and businesses at the intersection of King St. and Union St. and lower portions of King St., Prince St., and Strand St. should anticipate coastal flooding impacts.  

Residents, businesses, and visitors should tune in to local media for more information and take appropriate actions to keep their households safe. Monitor the Local Weather Forecast Office of the NWS for Alexandria. 

The City is monitoring and responding to conditions across the area and has deployed public works teams to prepare for downed traffic signals and debris removal.  

Report debris, downed traffic signals, and flooding via Alexandria’s Alex311 service by using the Alex311 website or mobile app, contacting @AlexandriaVA311 on social media, or calling 703.746.4311. After 10 p.m. please call 703.746.4444. 

For power outages, please notify Dominion Energy online or call at 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357).
