City of Alexandria government offices will be open on Election Day, November 7, and closed on November 10 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. Additional schedule changes and closures are listed below: 

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS):  

Tuesday, November 7: all ACPS locations will be closed for students due to a professional learning day. 

Friday, November 10: Normal school day. 

Alexandria Transit Company (DASH):  

Tuesday, November 7: Normal operation 

Friday, November 10: The Alexandria Transit Company administrative offices will be closed.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA):  

Tuesday, November 7: Standard hours 

Friday, November 10: Open weekend hours, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open at noon for adoptions, found animals, and rehoming.  

For an animal emergency or wildlife concern, call 703.746.4444. 

Courts:  

Tuesday, November 7 and Friday, November 10, the following courts will be closed: the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Court Service Unit. 

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV):  

Tuesday, November 7 and Friday, November 10: Closed. Many DMV services are available online at dmv.virginia.gov. 

Health Facilities:  

Tuesday, November 7, and Friday, November 10, the following facilities will be closed: the Alexandria City Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy, and Alexandria Health Department Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School. 

Historic Alexandria:  

Tuesday, November 7: All City museums will be closed, except for the Alexandria Archaeology Museum (open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.). 

Friday, November 10: Standard hours.

Hotlines:  

All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5800; the Domestic Violence hotline at 703.746.4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703.683.7273. 

Impound Lot:  

Tuesday, November 7: Normal operation 

Friday, November 10: Closed.  

The Impound Facility is closed every Saturday and Sunday and on all observed City holidays. Fees continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday but not on holidays. 

Libraries:  

Tuesday, November 7: Normal operation 

Friday, November 10: Closed.

Parking:  

Tuesday, November 7: Normal parking restrictions will be enforced. Many polling places will have reserved parking spaces for voters. 

Friday, November 10: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any normally prohibited location. Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced. 

Recreation, Nature, and Art Centers:  

Tuesday, November 7: Charles Houston, Chinquapin, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open for normal operations. All other City recreation centers will be closed for normal operations and open to registered voters assigned to those polling places. Recreation programs, including open gym and out-of-school time, may not be offered. 

Friday, November 10: Charles Houston, Chinquapin, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other City recreation centers will be closed.  

Resource Recovery:  

For the week of November 7, residential trash, yard waste, recycling, and curbside food waste will be collected according to their normal collection schedule; there will be no “holiday slide.” The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Collection Center will be operating following its standard schedule.
