The City of Alexandria is experiencing power outages and downed trees as a result of a thunderstorm that occurred earlier today, July 29. Currently, there are multiple residential and business customers in pockets throughout the City without power. There have been no reports of injury as a result of the storm or the power outages. 

Cooling Centers 

The following cooling centers are open: 

  • Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe St.): Open until 10 p.m. 

  • Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center (25 West Reed Ave.): Open until 10 p.m. 

  • William Ramsay Recreation Center (5650 Sanger Ave.): Open until 11 p.m. 

The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities is actively monitoring the current situation and will determine if there is need for extended hours at the other City recreation centers, as well as possible overnight cooling facilities.  

Reporting Debris and Other Storm Damage 

Since outage status changes rapidly, customers may view a map with current outages, causes (if known), and estimated restoration times at dominionenergy.com/outages. Should you need to report outages, please click the "Report/Check Outages" button above the map or call customer service at 866.366.4357. 

To report debris, down traffic signals, debris, flooding, or other non-emergency items in the City, please call 703.746.4444. If you have an emergency, please call 911.
