Alexandria Community Selects Focus Areas for Next Community Health Improvement Plan
Alexandria Health Department (AHD) and the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria (PHA) are excited to share that community members have selected the focus areas for the City’s next Community Health Improvement Plan.
Through online and in-person voting around the city and in coalition meetings, hundreds of residents shared their ideas for focus areas within the three CHIP priorities: Arlandria, Landmark/Van Dorn, and community-wide Mental Wellness. The top focus areas are:
Landmark/Van Dorn:
- Community safety and violence prevention
- Green spaces and places to gather and be active
- Expanded opportunities for youth
Arlandria:
- Increase neighborhood safety and reduce community violence
- Expand access to affordable healthcare
- Strengthen economic opportunity and financial stability
Citywide Mental Wellness:
- Safer spaces for vulnerable communities
- Strengthened community connections
- Reduced barriers to care
- Early interventions for youth
- Improved mental health crisis services
“These focus areas reflect the priorities of our city,” said AHD Director Dr. Rose. “But the heart of the plan lies in the details, and that’s what we need help with next.
‘We’re asking people in our community to join a workgroup for a focus area they care about. These workgroups are meeting now to design out specific action items in the plan and need input from Alexandria community members who truly understand our city.”
Any Alexandria community member can sign up for workgroups on the Community Health Improvement Plan website. The time commitment is a few hours a month, and groups meet in person and online.
More information can be found on the Community Health Improvement Plan website.
