Alexandria Health Department Hosts Free Flu Shot Clinic, Encourages Healthy Habits for Fall
Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is encouraging community members to protect themselves and their loved ones from respiratory viruses this fall with vaccines and healthy habits. To help protect against the flu, AHD will offer free flu vaccines at a community-wide vaccination event.
The Free Flu Shot Clinic will take place at Alexandria City High School - Minnie Howard Campus at 3801 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria VA, 22302 on Saturday, October 26 from 12 – 4 p.m.
Shots are free for all and available for everyone ages six months and up. No ID, insurance, or appointments are required. No COVID-19 or high-dose flu shots will be available. For a faster visit, people can pre-enter their information in our portal.
Free parking is available at the Minnie Howard Parking lot and public transit options are available. Early voting will also be taking place at Minnie Howard on Saturday, October 26 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
“We can’t wait to help Alexandrians protect themselves this season,” said AHD Director Dr. David Rose, “and we’re especially hopeful that people without insurance will come by for a free shot.”
New COVID-19 and flu shots are recommended for people 6 months and older this season. An RSV vaccine or immunization is recommended for some very young children and pregnant people as well as eligible older adults who haven’t received an RSV vaccine before.
People with insurance can get vaccines from primary care providers or pharmacies, listed at vaccines.gov. People without insurance can book COVID-19 and flu shots at AHD at a sliding fee scale by calling 703.746.4888.
Beyond vaccines, AHD recommends safe habits every day.
- Stay home if you feel sick to rest and prevent the spread of germs.
- Pick up free COVID-19 tests at Alexandria libraries or order some online.
- Wash your hands often with antibacterial soap and water for 20 seconds.
- Cover your mouth with your arm (not your hand) when you cough or sneeze.
- Feel free to mask to protect yourselves and others.
People can get more information at AHD’s Flu, COVID-19, and Respiratory Virus Season website.
