Alexandria Fire Department Recruit School 52 Graduates from Training Academy

For Immediate Release: April 15, 2022

The Alexandria Fire Department officially graduated Recruit School 52 on Friday, April 15 at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial after they spent more than seven months in the training academy. AFD welcomed and celebrated 23 new firefighter/EMTs.

City of Alexandria’s Circuit Court Clerk Greg Parks presided over the swearing in during the ceremony after remarks from City Manager Jim Parajon and International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2141 President Joshua Turner. Fire/EMS Chief Corey Smedley provided the keynote speech.

“As the Fire/EMS Chief, my mission is you. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of prioritizing safety and taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Maintain a work life balance and spend quality time with your family and friends,” said Smedley during his keynote address. Being fully engaged in your life and loved ones outside of work is just as important to your professional growth.”

The new firefighter/EMTs will begin reporting to their first assigned stations starting Saturday.
