ALEXANDRIA, VA. – The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a drowning incident in which one man died.

The initial call for service was received at approximately 2:04 p.m. on Monday, June 20, in the 3900 block of Richmond Highway for a man who had possibly drowned in the Four Mile Run stream.

Multiple jurisdictions and departments were on scene to assist with the rescue including the Alexandria Fire Department, Arlington County Police Department, the Arlington County Fire Department, and D.C. Metropolitan Police. 

The man, Tewodros Teferi, 52, was discovered and removed from the water by the Fire Department’s water rescue team, and EMS personnel attempted resuscitation efforts, but the efforts were unsuccessful.  Mr. Teferi was pronounced dead on the scene.

APD does not suspect foul play but will continue to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident.
