Verity Voting System
Beginning with the November 7, 2017 General Election, each Alexandria polling place will have two types of voting equipment--Verity Scan for paper ballots and Verity Touch Writer for accessibility. Both are secure, accurate and easy-to-use.
Verity Scan
If you vote on Verity Scan, you will receive your paper ballot from an election officer and proceed to a private voting booth to mark your ballot. When you are done, you take your ballot to the ballot scanner and insert the ballot into the Ballot Feed Slot. Your ballot is cast when you see the waving U.S. flag.
Verity Touch Writer
In addition, Alexandria has an accessible Touch Writer ballot marking device in every precinct (with a touchscreen, headphones and tactile devices) to ensure that all voters can vote privately and independently. If you choose to mark you ballot using the Touch Writer, let an election officer know and they will set the machine up for use. Once the Touch Writer is active, select "Learn to Use this Ballot" or "Begin Voting." When you are done making your choices, you will print your marked ballot and place it in a privacy folder. Then, you will bring your ballot to the Verity Scan where it will be scanned along with all the other ballots.
Touch Writer also lets you customize screen and audio options. For example, you can turn the screen off entirely (for privacy), or you can speed up the audio. You can also increase the text size and change the contrast settings.
