East Mason Avenue Curb Inlets
Project Summary

Status: Active
Location: Potomac West

Sponsor Dept.: Transportation & Environmental Services
Project Description
The City of Alexandria is improving the storm sewer infrastructure along E. Mason Avenue between Mt. Vernon Avenue and DeWitt Avenue to reduce neighborhood flooding from intense rain events. The project was identified following an investigation of the storm drain networks, flooding issues and drainage patterns. Proposed improvements include replace the existing curb inlets featuring two openings located on the north and south sides of E. Mason Avenue with redesigned larger curb inlets featuring three openings. The three-inlet system can capture and convey a larger quantity of storm water into the sewer system and will reduce the likelihood or magnitude of localized flooding.
Note: This project is contingent on the Hooffs Run Culvert Bypass project and successful co-location of the new design with other existing utilities in the right-of-way.
