Question: Do other jurisdictions receive state funding for school construction? (Councilman Elnoubi)

Response: According to the Alexandria City Public Schools financial staff, in FY 2023, the state provided one-time funding to support projects. Other formula-based funding that school divisions receive to support infrastructure is called “Infrastructure and Operations per Pupil Allocation.”

The Virginia Department of Education disburses Infrastructure and Operations Per Pupil Funds to local school divisions from the Lottery Proceeds Fund. Staff was able to confirm that the City of Falls Church, Fairfax County and Arlington County have all received this funding in the past.
