Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the City of Alexandria, and JBG SMITH announced a framework of an agreement for a public-private partnership to create a world-class Entertainment District in Alexandria at Potomac Yard.

In November 2018, Virginia Tech and the Commonwealth of Virginia announced funding for an Innovation Campus in Alexandria specifically targeted at tech talent that will benefit all companies in the Commonwealth. 

On June 13, 2017, City Council approved the Planning Commission recommendation to adopt the North Potomac Yard Small Area Plan Update (SAP), amending the Plan approved in 2010.

The Alexandria City Council dedicated the first phase of this regional park located in Potomac Yard on December 14, 2013. The park was designed and constructed through a public-private partnership with Pulte Homes.

The new Potomac Yard Metrorail Station will provide an extensive range of benefits and transportation options for Alexandria and the surrounding area. It is also expected to generate billions of dollars in new private sector investment and eventually support 26,000 new jobs and 13,000 new residents.

The volume of pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and vehicles traveling through the intersection of Potomac Ave. and Glebe Rd. will increase when the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station's South Pavilion opens. The goal of this project is to reduce conflict between all who travel through this area.

Since launching in August 2014, the National Landing-Potomac Yard Metroway provides frequent Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) premium service between the Braddock Road Metro Station and Pentagon City Metro Station, with service through Potomac Yard and the Crystal City area of Arlington.

Potomac Yard Park is the main designated open space for Phase 1 of the North Potomac Yard development project. The 4.5-acre park will be an extension of the currently constructed Potomac Yard Park south of North Potomac Yard.
