In June 2024 the Alexandria Sheriff's Office transitioned to Smart Communications to handle inmate communications including phones and tablets.
Family and friends may sign up now by visiting www.smartinmate.com and creating an account.
With this new system, inmates will receive four free 15-minute phones calls, two free digital messages and two free 20-minute video visits each week.
Information about the new service is also being provided to attorneys.
