Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Honors Veteran Deputy with Life-Saving Award
At the Community Champions Honors on August 6, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce recognized the exceptional service and actions of 25 dedicated individuals from the public and private sectors. Master Deputy Gwaltney, a longtime member of the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, received a life-saving award for his rescue of an inmate who tried to harm herself last fall.
Sheriff Sean Casey joined Dr. Rina Bansal, President of Inova Alexandria Hospital, and Joe Haggerty, President and CEO of the Chamber, in presenting Deputy Gwaltney with the life-saving award.
Deputy Gwaltney is a highly knowledgeable and experienced professional who has served with the Sheriff’s Office for more than 25 years. In addition to his regular duties, he is a member of the Crisis Intervention Team and the Honor Guard.

The Community Champions Honors is a new program that recognizes the above-and-beyond performance of Alexandria’s workforce, including individuals from a variety of industries and services, like healthcare, emergency services, education, transportation, hospitality and more.
