In 2019, the Make-A-Wish Foundation approached the City of Alexandria with a heartfelt request from a resilient four-year-old named Whitaker. Despite his courageous fight against cancer, Whitaker's heartwarming wish was to transform the Woodbine Tot Lot, a beloved playground just across the street from his home. He dreamt of not only renovating the playground but also adding special elements to create an incredibly enjoyable space for both himself and all his neighborhood friends. To bring Whitaker's dream to life, the Make-A-Wish project entailed a comprehensive makeover of the Woodbine Tot Lot, aligning with his specific desires. Make-A-Wish has committed to enlisting the expertise of a skilled designer who will collaborate closely with the local community. Additionally, a dedicated contractor will be engaged to carry out the playground's renovation, all of which will be overseen by the City's Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA).
