Flood Mitigation Grant Webinar Scheduled for August 15
The Flood Mitigation Grant Program was started in 2021 as a pilot program that provides financial incentives for property owners that install eligible flood protection practices. The City is seeking to expand the program to offer more residents opportunities to apply for the grant program and continue to streamline the documentation. This webinar will help property owners understand the types of flood mitigation practices that can be installed, the type of documentation required, and the process to apply to receive up to $5,000 matching grant from the program.
The current pilot program includes a requirement for a property owner to document flooding retroactively back to July 2019 to target previously-impacted properties. To date, the program has approved over 235 grant applications that installed eligible flood mitigation practices. The proposed program update would remove the requirement to demonstrate previous flooding on the property to open the program to more property owners to reduce the possibility of flood damage in the future.
Additionally, the City is seeking community input on ways to address common areas for condominium homeowner associations to fund the implementation of flood mitigation practices for their common areas. This could be a 50/50 match up to $25,000 for protecting common area primary structures such as clubhouse, parking garage, pool area, etc. with floodproofing measures. We would like to hear from community members about all their experience with flooding and their opinions about this proposed update to the program.
Please join staff on August 15 at 7 p.m. for a public webinar to learn more about how you can protect your property and receive a grant to help offset the cost. The meeting is open to the public. It will be held virtually via a Zoom link. Learn more about the program on the Flood Mitigation Grant Program website.
