Winter Storm Watch in Effect for Alexandria
The City of Alexandria is under a Winter Storm Watch from late Sunday through late Monday. Snow is expected to impact our region starting late Sunday, with some mixing with sleet and freezing rain possible during the storm. The current forecast indicates that by 7 a.m. Monday, there could be 3 inches of snow on the ground (with a range of 1-5 inches) with snow continuing throughout the day and evening. Snow continues into late Monday/early Tuesday, with total accumulations in Alexandria by Tuesday morning forecasted to be 7 inches (with a range of 3-12 inches, depending on mixing).
Temperatures will remain cold for the duration of the storm, with daytime highs at or below freezing with nighttime temps in the teens. Cold temps and wind chills will make outdoor travel and other activities challenging. Residents should take steps to prepare – people, pipes, pets – check on vulnerable or at-risk populations and dress accordingly if you intend to be outdoors. Avoid driving in severe winter conditions and make sure your vehicle is properly equipped if you must drive during the storm.
