Six Alexandrians Graduate from Fall Session of Sheriff’s Community Academy
This fall the Sheriff’s Office hosted its eighth class of the Sheriff’s Community Academy, which gives Alexandrians the opportunity to learn firsthand about the Office’s role in the local criminal justice system.
Beginning on September 14, six participants spent the next four Saturday mornings exploring Sheriff’s Office operations, engaging with staff, taking part in hands-on activities, and touring the Adult Detention Center and Alexandria Courthouse.
After the last meeting on October 5, Sheriff Sean Casey presented each with a certificate of achievement and a Sheriff’s Office challenge coin to recognize their graduation from the Sheriff’s Community Academy. Congratulations to Steven Buttie, Scarlett Jiron, Christine Kandra, Avis Lewis, Kathleen Sander, and James Williams for completing the Sheriff’s Community Academy!
During the Sheriff’s Community Academy, participants learned about jail operations, court security, transportation of inmates, civil process, inmate classification and services, facility support, equipment, and training. Staff gave presentations and conducted demonstrations, and Community Academy members were encouraged to ask questions and participate in several hands-on activities, including a firearms training simulator and a polygraph examination.
Sheriff Casey thanked the graduates for committing themselves to learning about the Office, and graduates shared observations about their experience and offered positive feedback about the program and the Office’s staff and operations.
The next session of the Sheriff’s Community Academy is expected to be held in early 2025.
