Inmates Celebrate Achievements at Recognition Luncheon
The Sheriff’s Office hosted a special lunchtime event on August 28 to recognize the achievements of inmates who participated in programs this summer.
These programs included educational ones like GED preparation and ESL studies, professional training with certifications in ServSafe® food safety, OSHA-10 general industry, and ATSSA traffic control flagging, and personal development like anger management and reentry preparation. All programs are offered to provide eligible inmates with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills and increase their success when they return to the community.
During the luncheon, Sheriff Sean Casey congratulated the honorees and thanked them for investing in their own futures. He also thanked the Inmates Services staff for ensuring quality programs are available to those in our custody.
Instructors and coordinators then addressed the inmates and announced the names of those who had participated in their specific programs. Guest speaker Dr. Ron Garrett applauded the inmates for their accomplishments and shared an inspirational message. A returned citizens himself, Dr. Garrett oversees the Jail, Prison, Reentry and Reintegration Ministry for Alfred Street Baptist Church.
Fifty-nine inmates were recognized at the luncheon, including several who participated in more than one program. Following the formal program, the honorees enjoyed lunch and soft drinks.
