Private Utility Projects and Construction
Scheduled Utility Work Map
The map below shows known major utility work for Washington Gas, Virginia American Water for calendar years 2024 and 2025. It does not include all utility work or emergency work. A larger, downloadable version of the map is available here.
Utility Restoration
Utility companies are permitted through the City's APEX system and are conditioned to fully restore any damages they are responsible for on public and private property. This includes:
- Asphalt
- Concrete (including sidewalks and driveway aprons)
- Landscaping
- Brickwork/pavers
City staff works closely with utility companies to avoid new utility cuts on recently repaved roads as much as possible. More information about City's repaving, which is separate from utility related repaving, is available here. The timing on the restoration can vary due to seasonal impacts or weather, but the companies should keep all impacts to a minimum through temporary restoration until final restoration can be completed.
Reporting Utility Concerns
For the quickest response, concerns about service and outages should be made to the utility companies directly. Utility contact information is available on this page.
Concerns about construction, maintenance of traffic, or outstanding restoration (such as utility related potholes/failing cuts) can be reported the Permits & Inspections Division through Alex311 under ROW Access & Construction Issues.
