The City of Alexandria’s local match changes for the Virginia Pre-school Initiative (VPI) program will not be known until the State budget and the local composite index level are resolved. The City is exploring options for any potential shortfalls, including shifting some community-based VPI slots to an alternative State funding source that requires no match and reimburses early childhood providers at a higher rate. Staff will provide updates through the City Council/School Board Subcommittee regarding the ultimate outcomes.
